Let's Get Digital BarCamp

Four digitised collection items on NZMuseumsNational Services Te Paerangi and DigitalNZ invite you to be part of Let’s Get Digital BarCamp. The aim of the day is to take the ideas explored at the National Digital Forum 2010 Conference and make them happen!

This free event on Wednesday 20 October at Te Papa is for staff of galleries, libraries, archives, museums and anyone else committed to building New Zealand’s culture and heritage online. Vendors are welcome, but please come along to join the conversation rather than promote your services.

Special guest star and drinks on us

There is a special guest star who will start the day with a rip and roar, but our lips are sealed for now!

At the end of the day we have drinks and snacks at Coyote Bar and Restaurant on us, thanks to our generous sponsor Pivotal Smart Print Solutions.

What’s a BarCamp?

BarCamps have been described as ‘user-generated conferences’. If you haven’t heard of them before, check out BarCamps Aotearoa New Zealand or Wikipedia.

At a BarCamp, the people who come along decide what’s going to happen on the day. We start the day with an empty grid showing rooms and times, and invite attendees to fill it out with things they want to present, discuss, get help with, or just kick around. Three or four presentations will happen at once, giving everyone the chance to be involved in a wide range of topics

It’s very informal, so just bring your ideas from the NDF Conference. If you couldn’t make it to the Conference, that’s okay too. The emphasis at a BarCamp is on active participation – everyone is encouraged to run or contribute to sessions.

What’s this BarCamp all about?

Let’s Get Digital BarCamp is a chance to go from inspiration to perspiration after the NDF conference. If a conference is a talk-fest, a BarCamp is the do-fest!

This year’s NDF Conference theme is Linking people, linking data. Throughout this conference we’ll be exploring the issues and opportunities surrounding:

  • connecting our collections
  • linking up with each other
  • using data
  • working with communities (e.g. iwi, family historians, etc)
  • working with content creators and consumers

If you tend to come out of conferences itching to get something done right now then we want you at Let’s Get Digital BarCamp!
